My Story

When I was 5 years old, I was diagnosed with epilepsy. My parents were told by the doctor that my case was mild, but there was no cure, which means I had to take anti-seizure pills for the rest of my life to control my symptoms. I tried multiple antiepileptic drugs and all of them led
me to severe behavioral problems, such as irritability, decreased concentration, mood changes
etc. Most importantly, none of them really helped.

I was put on antiepileptic drugs for almost 7 years. When I was 11 years old, we consult the doctor and we decided to get off of the antiepileptic drugs and see how things work. Surprisingly, I never had an episode of seizures again and my learning ability significantly improved since then.

I knew I wanted to become a doctor when I was 5 years old because of my experience. Looking back, that was quite impossible to become a doctor with the disease and learning disability. However, with the significant improvement after stopping the medication. I decided to give it a
try to get into medical school, so I was working on pre-medical during college.

I had never heard about naturopathic while I was pursuing to become a doctor. However, I often asked myself if I want to prescribe drugs that would bring more harm than benefits just because that’s the standard formula. Luckily, while I was working on my medical school application, I was able to learn about naturopathic medicine. At first, I had no idea what naturopathic medicine is, but one of their principles, “DO NO HARM!” has convinced me to choose this route, and this is how my journey as a ND began.

Why I Love Being a Naturopathic Doctor

I enjoy discovering the “WHY?” with my patients. A lot of patients would come to me with health concerns, such as fatigue, digestive issues, behavioral changes etc. and report that their lab results ordered by their primary care physician are “Normal”. It is NOT normal to experience
symptoms, there is always an explanation. My goal is to identify the root cause and triggers, and use natural therapies to treat the whole.

What I Love Outside of Work

I enjoy spending time with my children and family. I love bringing my children to the park, beach, and outdoor cafes. It is nice to see my children being more creative, active and adventurous when they spend more time playing outside.
